Do you think eventually people will stop buying books?

Now that Amazons got the Kindle and Barnes and Nobles is coming out with their own version? Personally I like having actual books. Yes I’m the weird nerd who likes the look, feel, and smell of new books (not moldy old library books ha ha). I just think reading a book over a screen isn’t that appealing to me. I don’t know why.
yeah I refuse to buy a kindle like someone says there grandma refuses to use a computer lol. I still like cds as well. I’m probably one of the few teens out there who still doesn’t own an ipod (although I would love one). I guess everyone says this about new technology, but some end up updating to the new technology anyways just too me right now I’d rather stick with real books.

I don’t necessarily think people will stop buying books, since there are many people who will actually enjoy the real thing if they like it enough.
Sure, eventually things will be more advanced, but the original source is usually the most favored by people who actually have the time to appreciate it.

When it becomes easier to read in a non-book format then yes, books will be unpopular

Not at all!
There will ALWAYS be people like you and I who prefer not to damage our eyes due to staring at the bright screen for hours. Like you, I rather have the book in my hands.. (and I agree with the dusty smell.. yuck).
I can’t stand reading books online.

I totally agree with you. I suppose the electronic books are more convenient, but it’s just not the same. There’s nothing like turning on some soft classical music, wearing some cozy pajamas, drinking hot chocolate, and curling up with a good book. It’s one of the simple pleasures in life that so many people ignore. I personally think that all the stupidity in the world could be done away with if more people would just pick up a book.

This question gets asked constantly.
Personally, I read physical books, I listen to Audio Books, I read books on my PDA and when technology lets books be downloaded straight to a screen inside my brain, I’ll read that way too… the main thing is what the books contain, not what format they arrive in.
That said, most of us like the feel of an actual book in our hands. I prefer the old library copies actually, I love looking at the date stamps, thinking of all the times people have read them. So I can’t really imagine that there will ever be a day when books aren’t produced on paper, even if fewer of them are bought that way, rather than in a more electronic format.

Where did you come up with that question? HaHa. Well EVENTUALLY I do think people will stop buying books. Once the ‘old’ generation is gone. Ex: grandparents, parents, and maybe for some people kids. I know a lot of older people that don’t like to try new things. For example, an older lady at my mom’s work refuses to use a computer. She never grew up with them and she doesn’t want to learn. I bet that eventually you won’t be able to buy books. Just use the old ones you have. I bet eventually things such as the Kindle will over rule books although I probably would perfer having a book in my hand. Hope I helped and that this makes any sense to you.

Real books all the way. I love the smell too! haha
I bought a book recently and the picture of it on the web looked quite nice. When my order came, the book cover was embossed and glittery and all that, I stared at the cover for a long time(lol)
I like to pay for physical things cos they’re more worth it than a few kilobytes of computer data in my opinion

If that makes you a nerd then darn it
I’m a nerd too.
=]
I love the feel of new books
I love the way they look without a mark on them
I love how they smell
And no,
used up library books or downloading them off the internet or something just wouldn’t be the same.
I love having stacks of books in my room
So I can look through them whenever I want

I know what you mean, I thought it was a great ideal at first since I spend alot of time on my computer but it really sucks, and I’m a teenager for peaches sake! I just bought 74 books online though!!! Amazon.ca, they should be here soon…

I think it will be a trend. More and more people will go for electronic version. However, books will still have the value of existence, just that it will become less and less popular, just like the case of CD being replaced by MP3…
It is just a matter of habit. We are reading books and listening to CD when we are born, so we’re used to it. The Kindle and electronic books are something new that we need to get used to. But for our next generation, they will get used to those electronic versions because they’ll taught since childhood…
I highly recommend you to read this review, she is a late adopter of the Kindle, see what she says:
